Our grantees include business, health, environmental, labor, equity, community, faith, and consumer groups, as well as policy experts, think tanks, universities, and more.

Our comprehensive approach advances energy efficiency and renewable energy in the power, transportation, and buildings sectors. Working together, our Policy and Public Engagement programs focus on developing innovative policies and campaigns to help propel clean energy development in these sectors, while our Strategic Communications Program develops powerful narrative and communications strategies designed to build support for our work regionally and nationwide. Our States and Regions Team is a cross-disciplinary team of policy, communications, and campaign experts dedicated to advancing strong state and regional climate and clean energy policies.

Energy Foundation’s founding office is in San Francisco, CA, with regional offices in Raleigh, NC; Chicago, IL; Washington, DC; and Las Vegas, NV.

Position Summary

Energy Foundation’s complexity and growth offers an experienced Human Resources (HR) generalist the opportunity to provide dynamic, thoughtful leadership and implement best-in-class HR practices that support talent development, employee engagement, and organizational scale. This is a critical enabler role working across the entire organization that aligns people, policies, and practice to EF’s core mission and values. Relying on strong functional expertise, the Senior Director, HR will recommend and oversee programs, policies, and benefits across the employee lifecycle to support a healthy, positive culture and a unified team, while also ensuring that all programs, management, and employee actions are consistent with policies and in compliance with employment laws and applicable regulations.

The Senior Director, HR must maintain strong, trust-based relationships with employees, creating safe and confidential ways to provide advice, counsel, and support in sensitive matters. They will support ongoing efforts to encourage effective, fair feedback processes to support well-being, learning, and growth. Particular emphasis should be placed on strategies to support remote staff, representing 25 percent of the workforce. The Senior Director, HR will guide EF’s learning journey on how best to serve, include, and support a multi-cultural, multi-site organization and ensure all are woven into the fabric of EF and receive the expert HR support they need to be successful.

The Senior Director, HR reports to the COO and is part of the leadership team. They work closely with EF’s Management Team, providing insightful advice and recommendations on HR practices, systems, culture, and HR matters. They will also serve in close partnership with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), playing an instrumental role in implementing HR practices that support EF’s DEI goals. The Senior Director, HR has the opportunity to assess current practices, make HR strategy recommendations, and drive implementation with the support of a staff hire, consultants, and external partners, as needed.
