Matthew Anderson

Program Director, Local Power

Matthew Anderson designs and funds strategies that build authentic and durable local support for the development of clean energy generation, transmission capacity, and manufacturing infrastructure in local—primarily rural—communities across America. He works with colleagues at EF and in the philanthropic community to prioritize resources among local venues, raise and align funding to support organizing efforts in communities across America, and build a network of national and regional supporters to help these local partners attract wealth, jobs, and community investment. Matthew is working to build a powerful network of local advocates who are well-integrated with state- and federal-level advocates who both support their work and amplify their stories to decision-makers at all levels of government.

Matthew previously served as Program Director Midwest Campaigns for EF, guiding strategies to build public support for equitable clean energy and climate policies in the the region. Prior to joining EF,  Matthew held multiple roles in the climate and clean energy philanthropic space as a consultant, including the Minnesota State Director for U.S. Energy Foundation, a convener of the Minnesota Climate Donor Table, and an advisor to other climate donors. In all of these positions, Matthew developed trusted relationships with funders and nonprofits, and provided strategic guidance and planning on climate, clean energy, and equity strategies in the Midwest. Matthew also has served as in various roles at religious nonprofits and in the conservation community supporting action on climate.
