Marie Liu

Program Director, California

Marie Liu guides EF’s strategies to build public support for clean energy and climate policies in California, a state that has driven innovative and urgent climate policy—and must continue to do so. Working in the state and in close partnership with EF’s West Region staff, consultants, grantees, advocates, and funder partners, Marie designs and funds strategies that create the diverse coalitions and collaborations needed to advance the ambitious state policy goals in the power, buildings, transportation, industrial, and climate sectors. This includes developing multi-year campaigns, leading the grantmaking process in California, and managing investment in the state to build support for clean energy and climate action.

Marie brings over 20 years of knowledge and experience in environmental policy. She most recently served as the Environmental and Climate Advisor for Speaker of the California State Assembly Anthony Rendon, where she provided policy and strategic guidance on environmental issues, including air quality, forestry, solid and hazardous waste, and climate adaptation and mitigation. Prior to this, Marie provided fiscal analysis of policy regarding natural resources, environmental quality, and energy as a Principal Consultant of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
